Scarlet Orbit is a 6 inch red self with a charteuse throat. Chiago Sunrise is and orange self with a very light , faint red eye. Strutter's Ball is a black purple and also a 6 inch bloom and the last picture is Athlone a Bi color which was hybridized in 1942 and still looks great today. Hope all your work in your garden gives you joy.

The dark side of daylilies

Out of all the colors there are in the flower world the deep dark purples, and near black flowers appeal to a lot of people. There should be room in every garden for some of these beauties. Vintage Bordeaux is a nice 5-1/2 flower which stands atop a 27 inch scape and was hybridize by Kirchhoff. It is the one in front of the bird bath. Here are a few I have hybridize ,I also like the bright throats that complement the flowers. hope you enjoy. Click on the pictures to get a close up

Stippled Daylilies

With the thousands of reds, yellows, pinks ,oranges which just are a little different gardeners look for something new and different. Stippling in daylilies is one such unique trait. Getting the right light to take and show the stippling at it's best may take a little luck on my part. I have some orange color daylilies with stippling which I have not been able to get a good picture yet. Have a great day and enjoy the daylily season.

Four way branching

It's not only the the color and shape of the bloom that is important to many gardeners but how many blooms each scape has. Many beautiful flowers have only six or less blooms. This daylily has four way branching with six or more buds on each branch which ends giving one a longer blooming period. This seedling has a nice shape, with ruffled edges ,light mid ribs . The scape's also are sturdy and stand well above a lot of other daylilies. I would not have guessed that so many seedling I started would turn out so nice. So long for now happy gardening. P.S. don't forget to double click the pictures for a close up to really see the detail.

longest day

Today was another great day in the garden. With leaving early for work and getting home at 6:00 pm I still had plenty of time to walk around and enjoy today's blooms. From 2 inch daylily blooms to 8 inch blooms , each daylily has a unique appeal to it. Some days its hard to figure out which one is my favorite , most days it a toss up. Bertie Ferris is a orange self with a 2-1/2 bloom and its scape is 20 inches tall. It was hybridized by Winniford and makes a nice plant up by the front edge of a border. The daylily Contemplation has this large water mark with cream pink petals. The three pink blooms stand out with the lighter blooming daylilies in the background. Ill be looking forward to tomorrows blooms and rembering that the days are starting to get shorter.

Light rain

The one thing a gardener hates is a rain so hard it beats up all the flowers but today we were spared with a nice light rain. The daylilies are now blooming in mass and it takes some time to walk through the garden and appreciate all the different ones. This afternoon when the sun came back out I was surprised how well so many of the daylilies looked as good as they were before the rain. The real dark daylilies looked a little beat up but when the evening sun was coming through the trees the colors just start glowing . Well have a great day , tomorrow's blooms will all be new and today's will be gone.

Ready or not the blooms are here.

The daylilies have been blooming a few here and a few there but today was a burst of color, shapes and sizes . My goat pen was bursting at the seams with new blooms , I could not have planed how the colors and sizes blended together to form a beautiful scene. Walking through the garden one could smell the fragrance while enjoying the visual pleasure of so many different flowers. For the next four weeks or so every day will bring a new mix of color so if you get a chance come over and enjoy the show no charge.
